GrubCal Privacy Policy

Summary: GrubCal stores your data locally on your device. We don't require accounts, don't sell your data, and don't track you. Meal photos are processed securely for calorie estimation and are not stored on our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Data You Provide
- Weight entries: Weight measurements you log manually
- Daily activities: Whether you ate out, had drinks, or worked out
- Meal photos: Photos you take for calorie estimation (processed and immediately discarded — see Section 3)
Data from Apple Health (with your permission)
- Weight: Synced from smart scales or other apps
- Steps: Daily step count
- Active calories: Calories burned through activity
We only access Apple Health data with your explicit permission. You can revoke access anytime in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Insights: To show you patterns and correlations between your behaviors and weight
- Calorie estimation: To analyze meal photos and estimate nutritional content
- Progress tracking: To display your weight trends over time
We do NOT use your data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than providing you with the app's features.
3. Meal Photo Processing
When you take a photo for calorie estimation:
- The photo is sent securely (encrypted) to our processing service
- AI analyzes the image and returns calorie/macro estimates
- The photo is immediately discarded after processing
- We do NOT store, retain, or use your food photos for any other purpose
- Photos are never used to train AI models
4. Data Storage
- Local storage: All your weight, activity, and insight data is stored locally on your device
- No cloud sync: We don't upload your personal data to cloud servers
- No accounts: We don't require you to create an account
- Your control: Delete the app to delete all your data
5. Data Sharing
We do NOT share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Meal photo analysis: Photos are sent to our secure AI processing service (Anthropic Claude API via Firebase) solely for calorie estimation
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
6. Apple Health Integration
GrubCal integrates with Apple Health to:
- Read: Weight, steps, and active calories
- Write: Meal calories (when you save an analysis)
This integration is optional and requires your explicit permission. Data read from Apple Health is processed locally and never sent to external servers (except as part of insights calculations on your device).
7. Children's Privacy
GrubCal is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
8. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures:
- All network transmissions use HTTPS encryption
- Meal photos are transmitted securely and immediately discarded
- Local data is protected by iOS device security
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View all data stored in the app
- Delete: Remove all data by deleting the app
- Revoke permissions: Disable Apple Health access in iOS Settings
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last Updated" date.
